Indeterminate tomato variety producing uniform, shiny red fruits with extended shelf life.
Preparation
Tomatoes crave heat and sun. Select a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight. Do not plant tomatoes in the same spot where potatoes, peppers, or eggplants grew recently to avoid soil-borne diseases.
How to Grow Tomato
- Materials: Seed starter pots, sturdy stakes or trellis, twine, calcium-rich fertilizer.
- Method: Sow seeds 0.5cm deep in starter pots. Transplant when seedlings are 10-15cm tall, burying the stem deep (up to the first leaves) to encourage strong root growth. Space plants 50-60cm apart. This is an indeterminate variety, meaning it grows like a vine. You must install tall stakes or a trellis immediately after transplanting. Prune off the "suckers" (small shoots between the main stem and branches) to direct energy into larger fruits.
How to Harvest
- Harvest in 65-70 days.
- Pick tomatoes when they are fully red and slightly soft to the touch.
- For the best flavor, store harvested tomatoes at room temperature, not in the refrigerator.
Common Problems
- Bacterial Wilt causes the whole plant to suddenly wilt and die while still green. This soil-borne bacteria is hard to treat; the best defense is using resistant varieties like Ruby Red and ensuring well-drained soil.
- Blossom End Rot (black patch on the bottom of fruit) is caused by inconsistent watering and calcium deficiency.
