Large-seeded soybean with high protein content (up to 42%), ideal for food processing industries.
Preparation
Soybeans are legumes that can fix their own nitrogen, so they don't need heavy fertilization. However, the soil should be loose and not prone to crusting, which can block seedlings from emerging. Choose a sunny location.
How to Grow Soybean
- Materials: Inoculant (optional), hoe, watering can.
- Method: Direct sow seeds into the garden soil. Avoid soaking these seeds for too long as they are fragile and can split. Plant 3-4cm deep, spaced 10-15cm apart.Water gently after planting. Once established, soybeans are relatively drought-tolerant, but regular watering during the flowering and pod-filling stages is crucial for high yields. Avoid handling the plants when leaves are wet to prevent spreading fungus.
How to Harvest
- For dry soybeans (grain), wait until the leaves turn yellow and fall off, and the pods turn brown and rattle when shaken (approx. 75-80 days).
- Pull the whole plant or cut at the base and thresh the beans.
Common Problems
- Pod Borers are caterpillars that eat into the developing pods. Inspect plants regularly and remove pests by hand or use organic biological controls.
- Rust appears as reddish-brown pustules on the underside of leaves; ensure good air circulation between rows.
