Vigorous vine growth producing uniform, dark green fruits. Highly resistant to Downy Mildew.
Preparation
Cucumbers grow rapidly and need a steady supply of nutrients. Enrich the site with compost. Installing a trellis or fence before planting is highly recommended to save space and keep fruits straight and clean.
How to Grow Cucumber
- Materials: Trellis netting or fence, mulch, high-nitrogen fertilizer.
- Method: Sow seeds 2cm deep directly at the base of your trellis. Space plants 40cm apart.Mulch around the base of the plants to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Cucumbers are thirsty plants; inconsistent watering results in bitter-tasting fruit. Train the vines up the trellis as they grow.
How to Harvest
- Harvest begins early, around 30-35 days.
- Pick fruits when they reach the desired size but before they turn yellow or overgrown.
- Harvesting frequently (every 2-3 days) signals the plant to produce more flowers and fruit.
Common Problems
- Downy Mildew causes yellow, angular spots on leaves bounded by leaf veins. "Crisp Green" is bred for resistance, but good airflow is still essential.
- Fruit Fly can sting the fruit, causing larvae inside; use pheromone traps to control populations.
